Short introduction

We all contribute to global warming. Now you can do something about it – easily and affordably. Join the thousands who use TerraPass to balance out the global warming impact.

Overview

Balance out your "carbon footprint" through a collaboration between SouthEast Charters and TerraPass. By funding clean energy and efficiency projects, you can sponsor a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions that is directly proportional to the emissions created by your charter.

We figure out what your average daily carbon footprint will be and give you the opportunity to purchase off-sets to make your charter "carbon neutral".

How it works

The best way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions is to use less energy and we have been aggressively reducing the Midnight SUN's energy use by upgrading to more energy efficient appliances. But due to its vast size and remote location, travel is still one of the key ingredients in exploring Southeast Alaska. When you plan your trip, consider balancing your carbon footprint by sponsoring reductions in greenhouse gas emissions elsewhere.

By purchasing carbon offsets through TerraPass, you can balance out your carbon impact on the environment. TerraPass funds three types of leading-edge projects: (1) clean energy such as wind; (2) biomass such as dairy farm methane digesters; and (3) Landfill gas capture which reduces the impact of our own waste. Every TerraPass offset purchase is verified against industry leading standards by an independent third party.

Let us know when you book your trip that you would like to include a carbon offset charge. We will add a daily charge to purchase enough offset to balance one day with Southeast Charters.  This includes the impact from the consumables and fuel we use and waste we generate.

The current daily cost is shown on our Rates & Schedules page.

Principles

TerraPass believes in a voluntary carbon offset market based on standards and transparency. Its portfolio is built on two guiding principles: matched maturity and third- party verification. Matched maturity means the offsets you buy are tied to reductions that happen within a year. Third-party verification means that you can be sure that the reductions you paid for are real.

Verification

Each TerraPass purchase is verified on two levels: every greenhouse gas reduction project is verified by an independent environmental auditor, and every TerraPass offset purchase and marketing claim is verified against industry leading standards by an independent third party.

Value

TerraPass has the unique and proven ability to design effective large-scale programs that fight climate change. The company channels its resources to get the maximum environmental benefit from every dollar. They are the leading consumer retailer of voluntary carbon offsets, having sold over 350,000 TerraPasses and reduced over one billion pounds of carbon dioxide emissions, the leading contributor to global warming.
